Colleges in the US that have online training, certification and certificate programs require students to pay a median tuition of $4,388 per year. In recent years, the median tuition has increased by 39.7%. The median tuition per year was $3,140 at these colleges and universities in 2007.

The range of tuition at schools around the nation offering training level programs is shown in the following chart. Tuition is shown from the least to most affordable colleges and universities.

Tuition of more than $13,500 per annum is charged by the most expensive colleges and universities with online certificate. On the other end of the spectrum, yearly tuition in the range of $600 to $2,707 is charged by the cheapest colleges. The lowest cost online accredited certificate schools are located in Arizona, California, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Texas.

Approximately 19% of graduates with training and certificate from online schools around the US graduated from these low tuition programs in 2011. This represents 236,775 of the 1,266,197 graduates from across the country. Between 2006 and 2011, the number of graduates with training and certificate from the least expensive colleges has increased by 77,471 graduates yearly, while the percentage of graduates from these colleges has also increased.

Yearly tuition in the range of $2,736 to $4,674 is charged by other somewhat more costly online certificate colleges and universities. Of the 254 online colleges and universities with training level programs in the nation, 66 offer programs with tuition in this range.

A reported 205,181 students earned their degrees and certificates from these affordable online programs in 2011. This is 16% of the nation’s certification and training level graduates. A short 5 years prior, in 2006, only 147,376 students earned credentials from these colleges and universities. Thus, the number of graduates from these affordable online colleges has increased by 39%.
