Online Associates Degree Programs in Criminal Justice Ranked by Affordability

Colleges and universities across the nation that offer online associates degree in criminal justice programs charge an average tuition of $11,561 per year. Over the past few years, the average tuition has increased by 44%. In 2007, the average tuition was $8,030 each year at these online colleges.

The range of tuition at colleges offering online criminal justice programs at the associates level is shown in the following chart. Tuition is shown from the least to most affordable colleges and universities.

A yearly tuition of over $14,271 is charged by the costliest schools that have online associates degree in criminal justice programs. On the other hand, the cheapest schools have annual tuition costs ranging from $780 to $3,137. The accredited online criminal justice associates degree schools that are the least costly are located in California, Kansas, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Texas.

Of all criminal justice graduates with associates degrees from online colleges across the country, approximately 24% graduated from these low tuition programs in 2011. Therefore, of the 677,279 graduates from across the country, 160,987 are from the most inexpensive colleges. Between 2006 and 2011, the number of criminal justice graduates with associates degrees from the least expensive online colleges has increased by 70,624 graduates yearly, while the percentage of graduates from these colleges has also increased.

Yearly tuition in the range of $3,180 to $7,380 is charged by other somewhat more costly online criminal justice associates degree schools. Tuition in this range is charged by 36 of the 243 online colleges offering associates degrees in criminal justice programs in the country.

In 2011, 21.8% of the country’s criminal justice associates level graduates received their certificates from these cheap online programs. This represents 147,702 students. Only 114,272 students graduated from these schools, just 5 years earlier, in 2006. Thus, the number of graduates from these affordable online colleges has increased by 29%.
