Colleges in the US with online PhD in social science programs have a median tuition of $9,360 per year. In recent years, there has been a 10.2% increase in the median tuition. In 2007, the annual median tuition was $8,491 at these online schools.

Tuition of more than $24,780 per year is charged by the most expensive online doctorate degree program in social science colleges. On the other end of the spectrum, annual tuition at the cheapest schools is in the range of $2,870 to $5,406. The least expensive accredited online social science PhD schools are located in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Dakota.

In 2011, roughly 26% of social science graduates with PhD from online colleges across the country earned credentials from these reasonably priced programs. Therefore, of the 1,876,525 graduates from across the country, 483,972 are from the most inexpensive colleges. Between 2006 and 2011, the number of social science graduates with doctoral programs from the least expensive online colleges has increased by 33,431 graduates yearly, while the percentage of graduates from these colleges has decreased.
Other somewhat more expensive online social science doctorate degree program colleges and universities charge students tuition ranging from $5,423 to $8,080 per annum. Tuition in this range is charged by 25 of the 109 online colleges that have doctoral programs in social science programs in the country.
In 2011, 25.1% of the nation’s social science doctorate level graduates earned their degrees from these low tuition online programs. This represents 471,918 students. In 2006, which was a short 5 years earlier, the number of graduates from these colleges and universities was only 461,018 students. Thus, from these affordable online colleges and universities, the number of graduates has increased by 2%.
