An annual median tuition of $17,748 is charged by colleges that have online design programs in the US. Over the past few years, the median tuition has increased by 40.1%. In 2007, the annual median tuition was $12,667 at these online schools.

A yearly tuition of over $19,440 is charged by the costliest schools that offer online design programs. On the other end of the spectrum, annual tuition at the cheapest schools is in the range of $600 to $4,377. California, Georgia, Massachusetts, Montana, and North Carolina are home to the most inexpensive accredited online design schools.

In 2011, of all design graduates from online colleges and universities in the nation, an estimated 25% earned credentials from these cheap programs. Therefore, of the 794,565 graduates in the nation, 198,976 are from the least costly colleges and universities. Between 2006 and 2011, the number of design graduates from the least expensive online colleges and universities has increased by 26,937 graduates annually, while the percentage of graduates from these colleges and universities has decreased.

Tuition ranging from $4,674 to $13,500 per annum is charged by other somewhat more expensive online design colleges and universities. Roughly 20 of the 148 online schools that have design programs in the US charge tuition in this range.

Approximately 39.6%, or 314,404 of the nation’s design graduates earned their degrees from these low tuition online programs in 2011. The number of students graduating from these schools was only 242,355 students in 2006, which was just 5 years prior. Therefore, the number of students graduating from these reasonably priced online colleges has increased by 30%.
