Colleges and universities across the nation offering online nursing programs charge students a median tuition of $9,240 per year. In recent years, there has been a 44% increase in the median tuition. In 2007, the median tuition at these online colleges and universities was $6,416 yearly.

A yearly tuition of over $19,814 is charged by the costliest online nursing colleges and universities. The cheapest colleges and universities, on the other hand, require students to pay per annum tuition costs in the range of $600 to $4,476. The accredited online nursing schools that are the least expensive are located in Massachusetts, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, and Wyoming.

This represents 685,537 of the 3,090,783 graduates from around the US. Between 2006 and 2011, the percentage of nursing graduates from the lowest cost online schools has decreased, while the number of graduates has increased by 81,876 graduates per year.

Tuition ranging from $4,494 to $8,396 annually is charged by other somewhat more expensive online nursing schools. Tuition in this range is charged by 88 of the 355 online colleges with nursing programs in the country.

In 2011, 35.3% of the country’s nursing graduates received their credentials from these reasonably priced online programs. This represents 1,090,665 students. Just 5 years prior, in 2006, only 830,409 students earned credentials from these schools. Thus, the number of graduates from these low tuition online colleges has increased by 31%.
